UFC Fight Night Dublin.
Here is our predictions for a few of the main event fights at UFC Fight Night Dublin, let us know what you think and if you’ll watching the fights.
A Flyweight fight.
Brad “One punch” Pickett vs Ian “Uncle Creepy” McCall.
Both Fighters here have a good base of fans and are good characters for the sport but how will the fight play out….Well Pickett is currently ranked 10th. McCall, despite having only one win in the UFC, is currently ranked 3rd although he does have a draw with current Flyweight Champion Mighty Mouse Johnson. Both Fighters are coming from a win and in a fight division so thin a 2 win fight streak could put them up for a title fight. Pickett is the more experienced fighter but will that show in the cage? This fight should be a war. McCall has never been knocked out and Pickett does have one-punch knockout power, though whether he can pull it off is another thing especially as he is still adjusting to the new flyweight category. Pickett will be able to match McCall on the feet and has an underrated submission game. He will be right in this fight from bell to bell aggressively coming forward and has the striking to finish it. In the end we see it going all 3 rounds and the decision going Pickett via split decision.
Gunnar Nelson vs Zak Cummings.
In the co-main event of the evening, Icelandic jiu-jitsu specialist Gunnar Nelson, who trains with main event headliner Conor McGregor in Ireland takes on TUF 17 alum Zak Cummings. At first glance, this one looks like a bit of a one sided fight, with many saying Cummings is like a lamb being led to the slaughter and this is just a showcase fight, but Cummings, who didn’t really shine to much during TUF 17, has won both his fights in the UFC to date. Cummings has also fought as light heavyweight before, so there’s a bit of a size advantage, saying that his jiu-jitsu doesn’t come close to the level of Nelson. Nelson a BJJ black belt who has won many gold medals in jiu-jitsu including the Pan American Championship. Cummings has a brown belt of his own in BJJ and several submission wins, but when this goes to the mat, (as we know it will with Nelson) Nelson will come out on top. Gunnar to win by submission, in the second round.
Conor McGregor vs Diego Brandao.
So we have reached the main event of UFC fight night Dublin or UFC fight night 46 whichever you prefer to call it. Native to Ireland and rising star Conor McGregor takes on the Ultimate Fighter 14 featherweight winner Diego Brandao in what look to be a great fight. Diego Brandao has the capability to dethrown just about anyone in the featherweight division, a quality fighter who could potentially have the skills to have a good run in this division when he’s preforming at best, on the other side though, he has also performed below his own capabilities, When he’s good he’s good but when he’s bad he’s dreadful. The fact the UFC have given him a second chance after his fight with Dustin Poirier (where missed weight and threatened to stab his opponent at the weigh-ins before he was KO’d in the fight) shows they must see some potential in him. McGregor is performing in front of his home crowd in his home country and will be fired up and even though he’s been out of action for just under a year, he’s also very adamant that there’s no ring rust and this will not be an issue. When the fight steps foot in the cage it could go potentially either way, McGregor has only ever lost via submission and hasn’t really been tested on the mat and what with Brandao is a black belt in BJJ with some tricky submissions, he will have to watch out if the fight hits the mat . McGregor seems to be taking this fight extremely seriously as we haven’t heard as much trash talk from him as usual, and while he has been hyped up a lot, I don’t see him falling in front of his hometown fans. Brandao has also been knocked out several times in his MMA career, so if McGregor can catch a clean shot on him, there’s a good chance of him going down. We see it going McGregor way by round 3 TKO.
